The "Credo" is a private theater, established in 1992 in Sofia by graduates of The National Academy of Theater and Film Arts, actors Nina Dmitrova and Vasil Vasilev-Zuek.

 

This theater bases its art on principles of clownery and improvisation; the actors are looking for an expressive theater language that will help to show the depths and diversity of ideas of renowned classics.

 

The "Credo" opened its first season with Gogol's "Overcoat", which was an international success.

 

The "Overcoat" was presented at more than 150 international festivals (England, USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Holland, Austria, Finland, Poland, Greece, Georgia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Ukraine, Portugal, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Belarus, Iran, Korea, Japan)

 

It received 7 international awards for the best production and 4 for the best acting.

 

For two years of participation at the Edinburg Festival the production received the highest professional award - 5 stars according to theatrical magazines. It was successfully presented in London in June of 2000.

 

The production's highlight is that it is performed in the language of the country, where the theater is touring. Thus, the "Overcoat" has been performed in 9 languages: Bulgarian, English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Japanese, Greek, Serbian.
